Everest was named after a British surveyor, Sir George Everest. 

Sir George Everest led the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India. 

This survey helped map out huge parts of India and Nepal. 

In 1852, surveyors discovered the world’s tallest mountain. 

The mountain was originally called Peak XV. But in 1865, they named it Mount Everest. 

Sir George Everest never actually saw the mountain that bears his name! 

Today, Everest is a symbol of adventure and exploration, attracting climbers from around the world.
