Did you know there was a storm so big, it could cover entire countries? Meet Typhoon Tip!

Typhoon Tip was born on October 4, 1979, in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean near a tiny island called Pohnpei.

Tip was no ordinary storm. It had winds up to 305 KM per hour—faster than a race car! That’s why it became the strongest tropical cyclone in recorded history.

Typhoon Tip was HUGE! At its biggest, it stretched 2200 kilometre across. That’s as wide as the distance from Delhi to Chennai or from New York to Dallas .

When Tip hit Japan, it brought lots of rain. The rain caused floods and landslides, and sadly, 86 people lost their lives

Scientists flew planes right into the middle of Tip to measure its power. They learned so much, and it helped improve how we track storms today!

Tip is still the record-holder for both the strongest winds and largest size. No other storm has beaten those records yet!

Typhoon Tip shows us that nature is powerful. But with good planning and smart technology, we can stay safe even in the worst storms!
